Ways You and Your Company, School and Organization Can Get Involved
Books for Kids forms partnerships with companies, civic groups and organizations who wish to make a commitment to assisting those in need in the communities where they work and live. Our goal is to partner with those who demonstrate
the same qualities they bring to their professional work: excellence, commitment, innovation, energy, and new ideas. Together we can give the gift of early childhood literacy skills to the children who need us the most.
Love a Library Program
In our Love a Library Program, your organization “adopts” an existing Books for Kids library to update and refurbish. Through you company’s donation, we replace old furniture, provide new rugs, room accessories and of course brand new books. We then ask your group to join us for one day to help us create an instant make over in a location close to work or home. We also have them read a story to the children, answer questions about their work and themselves. At the end of the day your employees and volunteers have a sense of pride and our children know that your company or organization cared enough to make a difference. Many choose to do multiple locations to serve the many neighborhoods and areas in which their group live and work.
For more information on our Love a Library Program call the Books for Kids office.
Read-a-Thons

Our Read-a-Thon program welcomes schools, bookstores, and clubs to participate in order to raise money to support Books for Kids. Using our Read-a-Thon kit, children ask for pledges from family and friends in exchange for their reading. The money collected is then donated to Books for Kids to fulfill its mission. By sponsoring a Books for Kids Read-A-Thon, you will promote a love of independent reading in each student as well as the pleasure of reading to someone or the simple joy of being read to by someone else. While raising money for children in need, you are promoting literacy amongst your students.

Volunteer
Please call or email to discuss other ways you can volunteer with us.
“Low literacy levels are closely linked to poverty, welfare and unemployment. Over one million children drop out of school each year costing our nation over 240 billion dollars over their lifetime in lost earnings, foregone tax revenues and expenditures for social services.”
