Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks 2011

|
On Friday, August 5, 2011 a team of Goldman Sachs volunteers joined Books for Kids for a day of renovation and reading at the Mary McLeod Bethune Day Care Center in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY.

The team set out bright and early to the Brooklyn center where they cleared and cleaned the old library room. Wall decorations and new furniture were installed, as well as a color coded sticker system for the library books that makes them easily identifiable to the children and the staff. After all of their hard work, the volunteers were able to read and do fun literacy activities with the children at the center.

Overall, the Goldman Sachs team helped transform the room into a state of the art learning center with colorful and stimulating decorations, 75 brand new books, a puppet theater, and a listening center; as well as a brand new Hooked on Phonics kit and Leap Frog activity systems. Books for Kids will start new literacy programs and volunteer reading at the Mary McLeod Bethune Day Care Center starting this Fall.
